The Story Behind This Song

Morning after the night before. When the tears fall into the coffee and you drink it anyway because that's what survivors do — they caffeinate and carry on. I wrote this at my kitchen table before the sun came up, mascara still smudged, mug in both hands, realizing that the strongest thing I'd ever done was just keep going.

Lyrics

Kitchen’s quiet, clock keeps ticking,
Sunlight crawls across the floor.
Same old cup, same old heartbreak,
Guess I don’t miss you any less than before.

I reach for sugar, pour forgiveness,
Stir the ache and let it steam.
Every sip is still a memory,
Of the life that left the dream.

Teardrops in my coffee,
Little ghosts of what we were.
Teardrops in my coffee,
Sweet turns bitter as I stir.

Phone’s still silent, screen still frozen,
I still check it anyway.
You’re out there somewhere breathing easy,
While I’m drowning in yesterday.

Love don’t vanish, it just lingers,
Like perfume on a threadbare sleeve.
You may forget the one who made you,
But the one who loved you never leaves.

God, You see me sitting here,
Faith and cream both gone to thin.
If forgiveness is the cross we carry,
Then pour me one more cup again.

Teardrops in my coffee,
They taste like grace and pain.
Teardrops in my coffee,
Prayin’ love finds home again.
